June 2025, Maharashtra — A specialized workshop and symposium on Heart Failure (HF) and Cardiac Device Therapy was recently held, drawing participation from budding cardiologists across the state. The two-part event — a focused CRT/CSP Device Workshop followed by an Evening Symposium — aimed at enhancing practical knowledge and clinical skills in heart failure management.
CRT/CSP Device Workshop: Hands-On Training for Real-World Impact
Four cardiologists — three from Nashik and one from Pune — took part in the hands-on workshop, which provided a unique blend of live case observation and simulator-based training. During the session, participants observed two live CRT device implantations, gaining critical insights into procedure planning and execution.
To strengthen their foundational understanding, dedicated classroom training sessions were conducted. These sessions covered essential topics such as:
- Patient selection criteria for advanced heart failure therapies
- Guidelines on the use of Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (ICD) and Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy-Defibrillator (CRT-D) devices
- Best practices in LV lead implantation, including simulation-based hands-on experience
- Mastering the technique of sheath slitting — a vital step in CRT implantation
This workshop was instrumental in building both theoretical understanding and procedural confidence among participants.
Heart Failure Evening Symposium: A Confluence of Knowledge and Experience
Later in the day, 20 DNB and DM cardiologists attended an Evening Symposium on Heart Failure. The session featured discussions on the latest advancements in the medical and device-based management of heart failure, offering a platform for learning, dialogue, and networking.
One of the highlights of the symposium was the participation of Dr. Kartikeya Bhargava, renowned electrophysiologist from Medanta, Gurugram, who joined as a faculty expert. Dr. Bhargava shared in-depth insights on device therapy, drawing from his extensive clinical experience. The interactive nature of the symposium allowed attendees to engage directly with Dr. Bhargava and other experts, ensuring their queries were addressed in real time.
A Step Toward Clinical Excellence
This initiative combined hands-on training with academic dialogue, highlighting the focus on skill-building and evidence-based cardiology. With expert faculty and eager young doctors, the event marked a key step in advancing heart failure care in India.
Dr. Suhas Hardas played a pivotal role in conceptualizing and leading the Heart Failure and Device Workshop. He personally guided participants through live CRT/CSP procedures, sharing invaluable clinical insights. Dr. Hardas also conducted in-depth classroom sessions on device selection and implantation techniques. His mentorship ensured a hands-on, practical learning experience for all attendees.
